Short Course in GCSE Religious Studies

Two year course for Year 11 & 12 pupils who wish to obtain a certificate for their two years of study
but who have chosen not to take the full GCSE Religious Studies course.

There are three areas of study to be undertaken over a two year period

Life and Teaching
of Jesus Christ 

Life of the Church in contrasting traditions
Morality from a Christian Perspective
church

Areas of the life of Jesus are explored.

Palestine as Jesus knew it

Identity of Jesus in significant events

Teaching of Jesus on areas relevant to today

Selected important deeds of Jesus

Three
titles of Jesus are explored

Particular emphasis on Jesus'
death, resurrection and ascension.

Study of the life of the Church:
explored through contrasting Church traditions:

The Christian Calendar

Significance of
Church buildings and furnishings

Worship (formal and informal),

Scripture,

Prayer etc.

Sacraments & the local Church.

Pupils are encouraged to explore aspects of morality from a Christian perspective:

Friendship, sexuality & responsibility:

Marriage and marriage preparation

Marriage problems and divorce

Respect for life: Abortion

Addictions, e.g. Drugs, Alcohol and gambling

Social responsibilities:

Work, unemployment & leisure

Pupils will have exams in June of Year 11 and a trial exam in January of Year 12.
Please note, there is no coursework for the Short Course in GCSE Religious Studies!
The exam sat at the end of Year 12 will lead to a GCSE Religious Studies (Short Course) grade.
Pupils wishing to continue their Religious Studies through to AS GCE will need to get a Grade A or higher in their
short course GCSE.
